    Round Table of Deans & Directors of B-Schools on National Institutional Ranking Framework 2017: Concepts and Processes

    The roundtable at WE School, Bangalore provided a holistic view on Higher Education in general and Management Schools ranking in particular. The wide scope of the coverage includes SWOT Analysis on the system, the conceptual framework, the process, and emphasis on academic interventions. The speakers included Policymakers, Institutional Heads, and thinkers on NIRF-2017. The roundtable consists of Deans-Directors of B-Schools, around 40. The sessions were interactive and outcome based.

    The roundtable was started with the inaugural address by Dr. Anil Rao Paila, Sr. Dean & Director, WeSchool, Bengaluru. The guests for the day was introduced by Dr. Madhavi Lokhande, Dean – WeSchool, Bengaluru. The context of the RT was set by Dr. Anand K. Joshi Joshi, Advisor - WeSchool, & Former Vice Chancellor. The chief guest was Dr. N.V Varghese-Vice Chancellor (I/C.) - NUEPA and Director - Centre for Policy Research in Higher Education (CPRHE), New Delhi.

    Aims Case Clearing House (ACCH) National Case Methodology & Case Writing Workshop

    The Centre of Excellence for Case Development (CECD) at S.P. Mandali’s Prin. L. N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research (WeSchool), is the host center for AIMS Case Clearing House (ACCH) for the first few years. CECD under the umbrella of ACCH organized a two-day “National Case Methodology and Case Writing Workshop” at Bengaluru campus on 20 and 21 July 2017. The two-day workshop commenced on 21 July 2017 with a welcome address by Dr. Madhavi Lokhande, Dean, WeSchool Bengaluru.

    Dr. Sonia Mehrotra, Head – CECD, conducted the first session of the day on “Introduction to Case Method of Teaching”. This was followed by case study discussion sessions on companies such as Titan Raga and Manjushree Technopack by Dr. Madhavi Lokhande and Dr. Sonia Mehrotra respectively. These sessions depicted different styles of conducting a case methodology session. Post-lunch, Prof. Vijay Rego, faculty, Marketing vertical conducted a session on curriculum design using cases. This was followed by an interactive session with Mr. Surendra Kedia, one of the case protagonists of Manjushree Technopack Limited case study. In the session, Mr. Kedia expressed his views on the future of plastic packaging industry as well how it helps the corporate get mapped as case studies for international publication purpose.

    The day 2, 21 July 2017, started with case discussion session using a role play approach by Prof. Vijay Rego as the facilitator. This followed a session on “Introduction to Case Writing and Importance of Teaching Note” by Dr. Sonia Mehrotra. The participants were then given a hands-on exercise in what to follow and what not to do while writing a case study by Dr. Madhavi Lokhande. Post-lunch, Dr. Madhavi Lokhande and Dr. Sonia Mehrotra jointly facilitated a session on “Key Evaluation Criteria in Case Selection for International Publication”. This was followed by an open house discussion with all the participants of the workshop. The workshop attended by 33 participants from across the Indian Management B-schools such as JBIM, MET, ITM, XIME, BMS, GBS, etc., was well received by the participants.

As explained by Charles Darwin, CHRYSALIS is a “proper place on which to become attached and undergo the final metamorphosis.” Chrysalis signifies a space to grow and develop, to unfold and explore, a foothold to grip and fly. Each year Foundation Fortnight is held to celebrate the commencement of the new academic year and to welcome the new batch into WeSchool family. The Neev 2017 started with lighting of the lamp ceremony in the esteemed presence of KS Viswanathan, Vice President (Industry Initiatives), NASSCOM, Bangalore, India, our guest of honor and Mr. Rupak Kumar Dutta, Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP) of Karnataka, our Chief Guest, Advocate Shri S. K. Jain, Chairman, Managing Council, S. P. Mandali and Local Managing Committee, WeSchool along with Prof. Dr. Uday Salunkhe, Group Director, WeSchool.

    As explained by Charles Darwin, CHRYSALIS is a “proper place on which to become attached and undergo the final metamorphosis.” Neev’17 @ WeSchool Bangalore is essentially a Chrysalis for students that helps in their metamorphoses from undergraduate students to MBA students. The event was inter spread across action packed activities like Mount Midoriyama, WeQUEST, live trading stock market, design workshop and the ultimate group photo challenge. Less can be said to describe one big massively interactive event buzzing with on spot challenges. Each day was an adventure. And each student is now a WeSchool family member.
