Women put forth their demand at the<\/strong> Seminar on <\/strong>\u2018Efficacy of Laws pertaining to Property and Marital Rights in Different Religions in India\u2019 organized by National Commission for women and Bharatiya Stree Shakti in collaboration with WeSchool <\/strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n

Prin. L.N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research (WeSchool)<\/strong> in association with National Commission for Women and Bharatiya Stree Shakti hosted a seminar on \u2018Efficacy of Laws pertaining to Property and Marital Rights in Different Religions in India\u2019<\/strong> on Saturday, 18th<\/sup> March, 2017. The seminar was inaugurated in the presence of Vijaya Rahatkar, Chairperson, Maharashtra State Commission for Women, Prof Dr Uday Salunkhe, Group Director, WeSchool, Meeratai Khadakkar, Prin. Judge ( Retd), Family Court, Nagpur;\u00a0 \u00a0and \u00a0Kumudini Bhargav, National Secretary, Bharatiya Stree Shakti.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The seminar was aimed at a concerted effort to study the strengths and weaknesses and to extract the best from Personal laws governing different religions and to suggest required changes. It saw participation of delegates across Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujrath, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Maharashtra.<\/p>\n

In her welcome address Kumudini<\/strong> Bhargav<\/strong>, National Secretary, Bharatiya Stree Shakti <\/strong>r<\/strong>eviewed the tasks undertaken by the NGO towards empowerment of women through various initiatives in\u00a0\u00a0 education, health, economic independence, equality and self-respect.<\/p>\n

Vijaya Rahatkar, Chairperson, Maharashtra State Commission for Women <\/strong>spoke about the need for enhanced collaboration between the central, state women\u2019s commissions and \u00a0NGOs for advocating women\u2019s rights by removing the loopholes in the law and\u00a0 system , \u201cToday, women are facing issues like domestic violence, sexual harassment at workplace and acid attacks. The main reasons behind acid attacks are either one-sided love or denial of the woman\u2019s property rights. All of us must collaborate and create the pressure group to voice our concerns to the Government to effectively change the law and the system for safeguarding these rights of women.\u201d<\/p>\n

Due to the proactive initiatives take by the Maharashtra State Women Commission towards support and rehabilitation of the victims of acid attacks, leading hospitals are coming forward to give them treatments like cosmetic as well as plastic surgery free of cost, sensitization of industries is helping them in getting employment and to regain their rightful place in society, she added.<\/p>\n

While addressing the audience, <\/strong>Prof Dr Uday Salunkhe, Group Director, WeSchool<\/strong> <\/strong>said, \u201cWomen empowerment is essential for India Inc to\"\"<\/a> progress and academic institutions like WeSchool play a crucial role in nurturing women to become leaders in their chosen fields. Through initiatives like \u2019WISE\u2019 to empower women from family owned businesses to function effectively on their boards of directors, \u2018WoMentoring\u2019 for bringing women back into the workforce, \u2018Safe Women, Safe Nation\u2019 and \u2018Saksham \u2019in association with Mumbai Police, we have constantly strived to develop and mentor our young students to become socially conscious citizen leaders. Joining hands with National Commission for Women and Bharatiya Stree Shakti on this seminar is another step forward in this direction.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Meeratai Khadakkar, Retired Prin. Judge, Family Court, Nagpur delivered the \u00a0keynote address, \u00a0a report titled, \u201cSmart Cities With A Focus On Inclusive Gender Development\u201d<\/strong> based on the findings of <\/strong>a\u00a0 national consultative\u00a0 seminar \u00a0held earlier was released \u00a0at the hands of \u00a0Vijaya Rahatkar, Chairperson, Maharashtra State Commission for Women and\u00a0 Prof Dr Uday Salunkhe, Group Director, WeSchool.<\/p>\n

Along with Meeratai Khadakkar, Judge (Retd) Bageshri Parikh, Shamsuddin Tamboli of Muslim Satyashodhak Mandal, Viney Kapoor, Commissioner, RTI (Punjab), Judge (Retd) Sunanda Joshi , Adv Girish Godbole, Adv Anjali Helekar participated in the subsequent \u00a0sessions to elaborate on the diversity of facets and issues\u00a0 faced\u00a0 while \u00a0safeguarding \u00a0the rights of women and set guidelines to establish good practices\u00a0 for effective\u00a0 implementation.<\/p>\n

Dr Prachi Moghe, Convener of the seminar, Nirmala Apte, Varsha Pawar-Tawde, Ragini Chandratre, Nayana Sahstrabuddhe, Rajashri Nagare from the Bhartiya Stree Shakti Sanghatana\u00a0\u00a0 had taken the lead in organizing the seminar while eminent advocates like Ram Apte, Jaee Vaidya, Prof Dr Rajadhyaksha, Prin\u2013New Law College and Prof Vaishali\u00a0 Gurav, Balasaheb Apte College had contributed as the advisors of\u00a0 this national seminar. <\/strong><\/p>\n
