{"id":2769,"date":"2013-03-07T06:43:36","date_gmt":"2013-03-07T06:43:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.welingkar.org\/blogs\/?p=2769"},"modified":"2026-02-16T17:36:35","modified_gmt":"2026-02-16T17:36:35","slug":"2769-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.welingkar.org\/blogs\/2769-2\/","title":{"rendered":"We Link and We Care&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Blood donation drive at the WeSchool campus on Feb 27,2013<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201c Charity begins at home \u201c said\u00a0\u00a0 the young MMS students from team NIRVANA ,after successfully completing the blood donation drive\u00a0 at the \u00a0Weschool campus \u00a0that managed to collect\u00a0\u00a0 165 bags of blood\u00a0 for the\u00a0 blood starved city of Mumbai.<\/p>\n<p>According to recent studies, Mumbai requires around 625 units of blood per day and about 20,000 units per month. One unit saves 3 lives and India faces a shortage of approx 60 lakh units of blood every year. After looking at the alarming figures, Sushrut Nikalje ,Tushar Chogale, Gajendra Ugile and Sushant Sutar from MMS 2012-14 batch\u00a0 came together\u00a0 to form \u00a0team \u2018 NIRVANA\u2019 , to contribute their own mite for societal good by creating \u2018Blood Connect \u2018to provide sufficient amount of blood to the medical institutes across Mumbai \u00a0from voluntary blood donation by students by creating awareness about their social responsibility. The blood donation drives were to be held by college students in coordination with respective NSS units, local blood banks and hospitals that would be benefited by this activity on a large scale. The idea was simple, implementable, sustainable, and measurable and socially relevant; which won them the prestigious MUNIJAN\u00a0 -Mumbai University New Initiative for Joint Action Now; held to mark the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi\u00a0 last year. MUNIJAN, over a period of time has become the symbol of activities to inculcate the values of social responsibility in the future leaders of India with the objective of bringing positive changes to the society at large by involving them in a series of constructive socially responsible initiatives.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.welingkar.org\/blogs\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/M2.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2772\" title=\"M2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.welingkar.org\/blogs\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/M2-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.welingkar.org\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/IMG_0293.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-2783\" title=\"IMG_0293\" src=\"https:\/\/www.welingkar.org\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/IMG_0293-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>The NIRVANA team however, did not choose to rest on their laurels .They went right ahead and\u00a0 implemented \u2018Blood Connect\u2019 at the WeSchool \u00a0campus on Wednesday 27<sup>th<\/sup> Feb with the help of Nair Hospital and Sir J.J. Mahanagar\u00a0 Raktapedhi. The\u00a0 MMS students were supported by their counterparts in the PGDM (Healthcare) and social entrepreneurship cell of WeSchool. \u00a0As the word spread through the campus, students, teachers and non-teaching staff \u00a0made a beeline to the Spacebar and the team of doctors got busy with the collections.\u00a0 at the end of the day 165 bags of blood were collected by them.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.welingkar.org\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/IMG_0360.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-2776\" title=\"IMG_0360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.welingkar.org\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/IMG_0360-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>&#8221; Voluntary donation\u00a0\u00a0 requires a higher sense of social responsibility and duty. One must try to donate blood and see what joy, happiness and satisfaction one will experience as\u00a0 this gesture may save somebody\u2019s life one day . While corporates donate millions for CSR efforts, a simple sponsored blood donation drive is a great way to complete your individual\u00a0\u00a0 social responsibility \u201csaid the members of team NIRVANA.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.welingkar.org\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/IMG_0493.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-2784\" title=\"IMG_0493\" src=\"https:\/\/www.welingkar.org\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/IMG_0493-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201c Today\u2019s youth are the people who can change the world, children and youth are working for their communities, their families, their cities, and their world. 21st century would belong to the Asian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.welingkar.org\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/IMG_0516.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-2777\" title=\"IMG_0516\" src=\"https:\/\/www.welingkar.org\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/IMG_0516-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>countries in which two giants China and India will play\u00a0 a major role. What makes India rich is its cultural and traditional heritage that it is believes in \u00a0the principles of\u00a0 &#8216;Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam&#8217;\u00a0 and\u00a0 &#8216;Sarve\u00a0 Santu Niramaya&#8217;. Youth empowered by such rich cultural heritage can bring about tremendous social change.
