MUMBAI INNOVATION LAB AT WESCHOOL

The Mumbai Innovation lab is part of the Emerging Worlds Special Interest Group (SIG) at the MIT Media Lab. This center is in collaboration with the Prin. L. N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research (WeSchool) and Tata Trusts. It is a unique, bottom-up co-innovation platform designed to address grand challenges related to health in the emerging world.

A LIVING LAB FOR INNOVATION TO SOLVE BIG PROBLEMS IN CONTEXT

The Innovation Lab goes beyond known boundaries and disciplines of health technology innovation to bring emerging health technologies into the real world.

The focus of the lab is to leverage imaging technologies, digital health, mobile platforms, Internet of Things and use computational methods like machine learning to develop medical solutions (screening/ monitoring/ aids/ diagnostics) for various widespread health conditions that can be applied to people of all resource levels. The innovations scale quickly and easily, and are applicable to other environments.

VIRTUAL LAB TOUR:

A PROVEN FRAMEWORK FOR INNOVATION

We believe 'designing in context' and co-locating technology and clinical talent will bring creative thinking and real world impact closer together. We apply a systematic framework that relies on pulling together specialists, expertise and skills from multiple players in the environment to help bring ideas to action.

PROJECTS:

UNIQUE COLLABORATION WITH WESCHOOL

The Innovation Lab is in residence at Prin. L. N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research (WeSchool). It has been supported by Dr. Uday Salunkhe, Group Director, and his team since May 2015.

Since 2014, WeSchool students and faculty have participated in MIT Health Tech Workshops and MIT Emerging Worlds events in Mumbai, contributing in individual projects to facilitate the progress of technologies.

In 2015, the MIT Media Lab and the Prin. L. N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research (WeSchool) established a collaboration to foster year-round innovation for addressing grand challenges in Health Technologies in India. The Innovation Lab was formed to leverage the MIT Emerging Worlds platform and the unique skills and expertise of the WeSchool in industry research, analysis and management.

Outcomes of the Innovation lab include new devices, algorithms, and health prototypes to address challenges in the current healthcare scenario.
